The compliance team in the London office is integral to providing legal, risk, and regulatory support. With a strong focus on anti-money laundering, this role also involves working on a wide range of compliance and business acceptance issues.

 

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Develop and understand the firm’s anti-money laundering and sanction policies.

  • Conduct client and matter checks, investigate company ownership, and carry out risk assessments.

  • Draft clear and organised written analyses for fee earners and the MLRO.

  • Perform checks on suppliers or third parties, assist with client account payments, and maintain verification databases.

  • Assist with monthly reporting to the MLRO and monitor and ensure timely completion of anti-money laundering checks.

  • Stay updated on AML and sanctions regulations, updating team procedures accordingly.

  • Understand the firm’s compliance-related policies, including conflict processes.

  • Assist with lateral hire clearances and external appointment reviews.

  • Liaise with the NY Conflicts team on screening and access request queries.

While a degree or equivalent relevant qualifications are desirable, experience in compliance, legal conflicts management, or risk teams is also valuable. Experience in a law firm and knowledge of SRA Rules and anti-money laundering legislation would be advantageous.

 

The ideal candidate will have strong organisational and communication skills and be an enthusiastic team player with a positive approach. High attention to detail, eagerness to learn, and adaptability to new systems and procedures are crucial. Self-motivation, the ability to take initiative, and the capability to prioritise, meet deadlines, and remain calm under pressure are key attributes for success in this role.
