A prestigious specialist law firm is seeking a Risk Counsel to lead its compliance function and manage a broad range of regulatory responsibilities across its London and Dublin offices. This pivotal role offers an exceptional opportunity to significantly impact the firm's compliance strategies and its dynamic operational growth.

The successful candidate will be instrumental in shaping the firm's overall compliance strategy, maintaining regulatory standards, and serving as a key advisor on compliance and ethical matters. This role includes responsibilities ranging from managing the firm's compliance audits to overseeing client onboarding processes and data privacy.

 

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Compliance Strategy and Policy Development: Lead the formulation and implementation of the firm's compliance strategy and policies in collaboration with the Compliance Partner. Regularly update policies to reflect regulatory changes.

  • Regulatory Oversight and Client Onboarding: Supervise the compliance aspects of client onboarding, including AML and sanctions checks, and manage the firm's external KYC checks service provider.

  • Data Privacy and IT Security: Serve as the firm's Data Privacy Officer, ensuring compliance with data privacy policies and conducting IT security audits.

  • Legal and Ethical Compliance: Advise on a wide range of legal ethical and regulatory issues, maintaining the firm's risk register and managing SRA/Irish Law Society compliance.

  • Training and Development: Develop and manage compliance training programs, focusing on AML, anti-bribery, data protection, and IT security.

 

Key Requirements Include:

  • Legal Qualification: Qualified lawyer in the UK or Ireland, with at least 6 years PQE in a regulatory law environment.

  • Regulatory Expertise: Demonstrated understanding of the compliance and regulatory environment, specifically within England & Wales, and strong knowledge of SRA Standards & Regulations.

  • Strategic Leadership Skills: Proven leadership capabilities with a clear business focus, capable of fostering strong working relationships with all organisational levels.

  • Analytical and Communication Skills: Strong analytical skills combined with the ability to communicate complex information clearly and persuasively.
